With Phase Eight, Dune, Tommy Hilfiger and Creed to name but a few, House of Fraser is a great place to shop for top clothing brands.
A student discount for this top UK department would come in handy to get a reduction on fashion, homewares, beauty and electricals, but do HoF do one?
1. Does House of Fraser Take a Student Discount?
In 2019 there is no House of Fraser student discount. There used to be one with Unidays but as the department store has recently been taken over it looks like it has been discontinued for now.
If there is any change in this then Student Discount Squirrel will be the first to tell you.
This doesn’t mean that students still can’t save at the HoF. We list:
- Latest promo codes
- Free Delivery Methods
So keep on reading and we could help you save.
“But don’t leave us yet. Student Discount Squirrel has found out more ways that you undergraduates can save even more.”
2. Discount Codes, Codes Promo and Vouchers
So we’ve established how to get the official 10% reduction but throughout the year there are additional promo codes that undergraduates can use to get money off online. They release for a short amount of time as promotions but it is possible to get discounts bigger than 10%!
To keep a track of this, we’ve created the helpful guide table below so take a look and see if you can save. We’ve also listed other ways to get money off such as flash sales that could save you more.
3. Is There a Unidays House of Fraser discount?
We get asked this questions a lot so we thought we’d put a section here to explain.
While there is no specific House of Fraser NUS or NUS Extra discount, undergraduates that hold a card can get the 10% reduction but only when going through Unidays or Student Beans validation.
As these pupils tend to have an .ac.uk email address, you will be able to get the discount code and use it to get the ten percent off.
To get the code, go to houseoffraser.co.uk, do your shop online and use your Unidays or Student Beans code to get the standard ten percent off.
When you are instore, it is worth asking for a NUS discount and showing your card. Because they are signed up to a student discount scheme, they should give you 10% off at the till.
Remember dear learners, if you don’t ask you don’t get!
4. Store Overview
A giant of the British high street, House of Fraser is a department store well known for its unrivalled brand range and high-end products that are considered more premium than those offered by competitors.
A Scottish company who started out as Fraser & Sons, there are now 60 large House of Fraser department stores in the UK; most of them flagship stores across shopping malls and commercial developments.
Over the years, House of Fraser has made a number of strategic acquisitions of other retailers that has boosted business development and allowed the stores to offer a huge variety of brands spanning men’s clothing, women’s clothing and kid’s clothing, beauty, home and garden, furniture, gifts and electricals.
Online, even more is available including many brands that are exclusive to the website and can’t be found in-store.
House of Fraser is the third largest group of traditional department stores in the UK, rounded up with their really popular website – which accounts for over 11% of all sales. Outlet stores in Doncaster and Swindon sell discounted designer goods that haven’t managed to sell in other stores.
House of Fraser isn’t typical Student Discount Squirrel fodder as the brands it sells are often premium and luxury products; but their discount events and money-off promotions mean that it’s often quite the place to pick up a real bargain.
Their student discount can often depend on the individual brand or concession but can normally be stacked with promotional events. Most stores have weekend-long events offering money off in specified departments at least once a month, and their seasonal sales are legendary! If you’re willing to fork out a little more than usual for real quality or a designer label, but would still like to save some cash, House of Fraser is the store for you.
Clothing brands stocked by House of Fraser currently include:
- Alexander McQueen
- Giorgio Armani
- Paul Smith
- Polo Ralph Lauren
- Calvin Klein
Homeware brands include:
- Cath Kidston
- Jo Malone
- Le Creuset
- Royal Doulton.
Electrical brands include:
- Russell Hobbs
Brands change often and are handily indexed on the House of Fraser website for quick reference.
There’s also lots of freebies to be had by popping into a House of Fraser store, should you have one near you. Their promotional events often offer free samples in the health and beauty section as well as free-to-attend activities in store. Be sure to keep up-to-date with your local shop’s goings on, and if you can, co-ordinate your shopping schedule with their sales!

History of the Store
House of Fraser was founded in 1849 by Hugh Fraser and James Arthur as a small drapery shop in Glasgow, originally trading as Arthur & Fraser. Bringing in customers from their existing jobs, Fraser and Arthur went on to open a wholesale store a few years later as the business grew.
When Fraser died, his three sons inherited stakes in the company, and the flagship store in Oxford Street opened in 1879. By 1900, Hugh Fraser II had taken over, and he introduced the stag’s head branding still prominent throughout the chain today.
In 1927, the company diversified, opening a tea room, a restaurant and starting a round of acquisitions of other companies. By 1974, House of Fraser had even been discussed in the House of Commons, as it intended to merge with Boots, but this merger was ultimately blocked.
The company as is today hosts a successful website and numerous large department stores in major towns and cities across the UK. Now a household name in the country, most Brits have shopped in one at least once. House of Fraser is now a subsidiary of the Highland Group Holdings Co, which is partly owned by Landsbanki.
According to the University of Glasgow
The company was founded in 1849, when partners Hugh Fraser and James Arthur opened a small
drapery shop on the corner of Argyle Street/Buchanan Street.
The former was the son of a farmer, who knew!
The business expanded rapidly and is now owned by a Chinese company.
There are lots of stores throughout the UK making it a convenient place to find top brands, fashion, dresses, luggage, suits, footwear, beauty, gifts and a whole host more. So there is likely to be one located near your uni campus or college.
Plus, with the website, there are handy additions like click and collect and delivery to your home so you can get anything you want really and all with a handy NUS discount of ten percent. Quids in!
