One of the best times to get the most money off at JD Sports is when there is a big sale on. The best thing to do is go to the home page as if there is a sale on, it will be on here. We’ve found that there is usually a sale on the following times throughout the year:
- Black Friday
- Winter sales from around Boxing Day

4. Is there a NUS JD Sports discount?
Alas there isn’t a JD Sports NUS discount for card holders.
However, if you find yourself in a store then at the till ask if there is a discount for students, flash your NUS card or student id and speak to the manager to see if they will give a discretionary reduction.
Sometimes this old trick works, however, as mentioned the best reductions, discounts and offers are more often than not available online.
Squirrel says: “Although there is a JD student discount, check out the Mega Deals page for great even bigger savings.”
SDS has also done some research and there is aUnidays discount but no Student Beans discount code.

6. Store Overview & What To Buy
JD Sports, or ‘The Undisputed King of Trainers’ as it is now well-known, is undoubtedly a high street giant when it comes to sportswear, activewear and footwear. Based in Bury, Manchester, the chain has grown to encompass over eight hundred of stores across the UK and Europe, and features in the FTSE 250.
The brand was one of very few retail outlets who were not at all affected by the British economy’s recession, proving just how popular the shop is and how loyal its customers remain.
JD Sports’ range includes a vast collection of trainers for both sports and fashion wear, as well as men’s, women’s and children’s fashion and activewear pieces from leading sports brands including Adidas, Nike, Puma, Ellesse, Fila, Vans and Converse. Accessories and football shirts can also be purchased in-store, online through the JD Sports website or through their dedicated smartphone app.
Trainers, sneakers and footwear are the brand’s biggest unique selling point, with not just everyday pieces such as Nike Air Max and the Adidas Superstar range available, but also a sizeable collection of shoes that entirely exclusive to JD Sports. At the time of writing, there’s a whopping 587 store-exclusive pairs of shoes listed on the JD website, spanning men’s, women’s and children’s… which is a hefty feat for even the most dedicated of sneaker enthusiast to collect!
Taking a sway toward the fashion element of sports brands rather than just focusing in on those who actually play a sport has seen JD Sports go from strength to strength, differentiating it from other high street chains by widening the audience it attracts and ensuring there’s something for everyone in-store. Celebrity endorsements and limited collections co-designed by popular sportspeople have proved really popular for the brand including the likes of Rita Ora for Adidas, boxing sponsorship with Anthony Joshua and endorsements with the Miami Dolphins. Even if customers aren’t necessarily sports players themselves, they’re enticed to buy through these partnerships.
JD Sports is now a staple amongst fashion fans, be it for a comfy tracksuit to wear around the house, branded co-ord for nights out or the latest pair of trainers. What’s more, their team work hard to negotiate fair prices and to offer a competitive student discount and money-off offers and sales, so you know you’ll be getting great bang for your buck.
If you don’t live by a JD Sports store, fear not. There’s a whole host of delivery options, including various 1-hour stipulated delivery slots (so no excuse for waiting around and missing lectures!) and the ability to collect from your local Post Office. What’s more, if you’re a frequent shopper, the Unlimited Delivery package is just £9.99 for a whole year of free next day delivery when you purchase using the JD Sports app, no matter the size or value of your order – and it’s normally £4.99 a go. Now that’s what we call money saving!
If you think that JD Sports sells only the latest football strips and PE Kit-esque attire, where have you been hiding? A few years ago, the brand was well known for sportswear and little else, however now it’s a fashion house stocking most of our favourite brands, many of which you wouldn’t have expected!
They are the self-titled ‘undisputed king of trainers’ and we completely agree with that bold statement.
With such a massive selection to choose from this popular trainer shop is a firm favourite with undergraduates across the UK and they regularly have some great offers, so whether you are looking for footwear for the gym, something comfy for lectures or something more stylish for the pub, look no further than this popular retailer.
Top Buy: Customisable Ellesse Riva Backpack – £28.00
The perfect neutral black backpack for carrying all of your essentials around uni, this bag is made from virtually undamageable polyester and has a roomy main compartment as well as side pockets, a zippable front and comfy padded adjustable sleeves. What’s more, you’ll never pick up someone else’s bag by mistake again – this rucksack can be printed with your name and/or number on, just like a football shirt, for personalisation! It makes for a great gift, too.
Top Buy: McKenzie Three-Pack Invisible Socks – £6.00
There are few fashion faux pas worse than white socks and black shoes or having your patterned day-of-the-week socks poking out from your new favourite pair of trainers. These McKenzie socks are exclusive to JD Sports and as thin ankle liners protect your feet while never showing from the rims of your footwear. Made of 70% cotton with some elastane for stretch and available in a range of sizes, these branded socks are £3.00 each, so you’re effectively getting a pair for free with this multi-pack!
Top Buy: Nike Push-Up Grips – £23.00
It’s not always easy to get out to the gym or even to exercise in public or at decent times of the day particularly when you have university work to prioritise first. There’s no doubt that push-ups are a key part of core strength building and work-outs, and if you can bust out a few of them each day, that’s definitely better than nothing. These grips are ergonomic to release stress on your wrists while allowing you to elevate your push-up position, helping you go deeper and build strength quicker. What’s more with a non-slip base, however clammy your hands get, you won’t be going anywhere.
Trainers Trainers Trainers
Did we say trainers? Lol. This is what this urban sports store is truly famous for now and it’s no surprise as they have a massive collection of the hottest footwear brands going.
If you head to the trainers page on the jdsports.co.uk for either men or women then there are helpful buttons to the trending sneakers.
For instance, when we visited, students were going silly for various Nike models including Air VapourMax, Air Max 95, Air Max 90 and Air Force One.
There was much love for Adidas Originals NMD and Vans Old Skool so a nice range there.
Not Just Trainers…Urban Sportswear to Go
However, thinking that JD Sports is simply some kind of shoe shop is totally selling this store short as they also stock some brilliant on-brand fashions.

Gentlemen, get ready for university and give your style a step up with their stylish and stunning men’s collection ranging from clothing to footwear and accessories. You can go for street-ready tees and shorts, or rep the Air Max fam when you step out for study or play.

Simply keep your eye on this page and our Squirrel Facebook page for brilliant offers, savings and voucher codes as well. They have regular seasonal sales too which we keep a beady squirrel eye out for.
Ladies Sports Fashion To Thrill
Ladies don’t despair, JD also stocks the absolute latest trends for you too. When the latest fashions land, this is the store you’ll find them in, complete with the latest in vogue items.
This season it’s all about “boyfriend fits”, sporty style, crop cuts and high necks from brands such as Adidas Originals, Ellesse, Supply & Demand and Nike. With new items to check out daily at the jdsports.co.uk, keep checking in to see the fiercest t-shirts, joggers, hoodies and sports bras landing in the women section every day.
They are also stockists of celebrity collections such as original Bad Gal RiRi’s sought after Puma Fenty collection, Beyonce’s Ivy Park range as well as complete classics like Fred Perry, Adidas California tee’s, tights, mesh shorts and All-American legends Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein!
Basically, you can get your entire campus winter wardrobe with a few clicks of mouse, or should we say shakes of a squirrels tail? And if you play your cards correctly (read this and we’ll show you how to) you’ll get lots of deals and bargains to have those all important items at more importantly, great prices.

JD Sports is a relatively new company, having only been founded in 1981 but has seen mass growth since then. Originally a single sportwear shop in Bury, the ranges stocked were so popular that by 1983, the business had expanded to the Arndale Centre in nearby Manchester. By 1996, when the company floated its stock for the first time, there were 56 shops in place and trade deals set up with the likes of Adidas, Nike, Reebok and Puma.
Continuing to grow organically and at a good rate, real success came with the acquisition of other, similar chains. The company bought First Sport (200 shops), Allsports (70 shops) and Chausport (75 shops), immediately re-branding and re-opening all as JD Sports stores. Broadening further, the brand began to buy related companies in Europe too, and now has shops in France, Spain and the Republic of Ireland.
The future looks bright for JD Sports and there’s one thing to be sure of: that Undisputed King of Trainers title won’t be going anywhere fast!
