Taking a sway toward the fashion element of sports brands rather than just focusing in on those who actually play a sport has seen JD Sports go from strength to strength, differentiating it from other high street chains by widening the audience it attracts and ensuring there’s something for everyone in-store and in the sale shop. Celebrity endorsements and limited collections co-designed by popular sportspeople have proved really popular for the brand including the likes of Rita Ora for Adidas, boxing sponsorship with Anthony Joshua and endorsements with the Miami Dolphins. Even if customers aren’t necessarily sporting players themselves, they’re enticed to buy through these partnerships.

JD is now a staple amongst fashion fans, be it for a comfy tracksuit to wear around the house, branded co-ord for nights out or the latest pair of trainers. What’s more, their teamwork hard to negotiate fair prices and to offer a competitive JD student discount and money-off offers and sales, so you know you’ll be getting great bang for your buck. The JD Student discount is often backed up by JD Sports unidays offers, JD free delivery codes, JD promotional codes, JD vouchers and JD sales – all in all – lots of ways to save! It is one of the reasons they are so popular.

If you don’t live by a JD store, fear not. There’s a whole host of delivery options, including various 1-hour stipulated delivery slots (so no excuse for waiting around and missing lectures!) and the ability to collect from your local Post Office. What’s more, if you’re a frequent shopper, the Unlimited Delivery package is just £9.99 for a whole year of free next day delivery when you purchase using the JD app, no matter the size or value of your order – and it’s normally £4.99 ago. Now that’s what we call money saving!

If you think that JD sells only the latest football strips and PE Kit-Esque attire, where have you been hiding? A few years ago, the brand was well known for sportswear and little else, however now it’s a fashion house stocking most of our favourite brands, many of which you wouldn’t have expected!

HISTORY

JD is a relatively new company, having only been founded in 1981 but has seen mass growth since then. Originally a single sportswear shop in Bury, the ranges stocked were so popular that by 1983, the business had expanded to the Arndale Centre in nearby Manchester. By 1996, when the company floated its stock for the first time, there were 56 shops in place and trade deals set up with the likes of Adidas, Nike, Reebok and Puma.

Continuing to grow organically and at a good rate, real success came with the acquisition of other, similar chains. The company bought First Sport (200 shops), Allsports (70 shops) and Chausport (75 shops), immediately re-branding and re-opening all as JD stores. Broadening further, the brand began to buy related companies in Europe too, and now has shops in France, Spain and the Republic of Ireland.

The future looks bright for JD and there’s one thing to be sure of: that Undisputed King of Trainers title won’t be going anywhere fast!
