We absolutely love Next at Student Squirrel towers. They have classic fashion basics at an affordable level and their sales are legendary. But it can be difficult for students to find reductions.

That’s why we decided to put this comprehensive Next student discount guide together.

There is a contents box below so if there is a specific section that interests you then click on it an you’ll smoothly scroll to that section.

1. Is there a Next Student Discount?

Currently in September 2018 there is no Next student discount.

That’s a shame because next.co.uk is a fashion brand that students shop at a lot.

However, not all is lost, there are still ways that students can save money.

Make sure you visit the clearance pages where you can save up to 50% off fashion, homewares and more.

Also there is a rare £10 off for pupils that sign up to the Nextpay account scheme.

And make sure you check out our fantastic savings section at the top of the page for the latest vouchers, sales alerts and more!

2. Is there a UNiDAYS Next NUS, or Student Beans Discount?

There are 3 big student discount programmes in the UK:

  • Unidays
  • NUS Extra
  • Student Beans

It can be time consuming trying to find if they have a relationship with this fashion retailer so we’ve researched the answers and the results are in.

The Unidays Next Discount?

Unfortunately there is no UNiDAYS Next discount.

Not to worry though, there are still some clever ways we’ve found out how students can save money.

Be sure to check out our savings section at the top of the page for the latest promo codes, sales alerts and more.

Next NUS Discount?

As there is no official student scheme there is no NUS Next discount or NUS Extra one either for that matter.

However, if you are in-store, then ask at the till and show your valid student id, you never know your luck!

Are there Student Beans Discounts?

Nope, there is no association between Student Beans. This would make things easier for students but there you go.

Make sure though that you do check out the clearance pages though too as there are bigger discounts there to be had.

3. Promo Codes, Vouchers & Discounts

One of the best and easiest ways for uni goers to save is when there is a Next promo code available.

They usually release these voucher codes to be used at next.co.uk and they last from between 1-2 weeks.

We always list live codes in our savings section so make sure you take a look. They include:

DiscountDate ValidatedCode Required
£10 Off Online OrdersSeptember 2018No
Up to 50% SaleSeptember 2018No

Previous promo codes have included:

  • 20% off all sale items
  • 20% off everything

Using the codes are super simple, just do your shop, get to the check-out and enter the code and the relevant reduction or offer will automatically be applied.

4. Next Sales Diary & Alerts

One of the best ways for students to get the biggest discount is when there is a big Next sale on.

In fact, they have a reputation for huge clearance sales.

Interestingly enough we’ve found out that there is a permanent sales page on next.co.uk which is worth a look at any time of year.

However, the best savings is when there is an official sale on. Take a look to see if there is one due.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday

There tends to be a huge Next Black Friday sale. They have reductions of up to 70%.

We like looking at next.co.uk as it’s easy to search by size which is handy and there were good reductions on dresses, shirts, trousers, shoes and much more.

If it’s coming up to that date (last week in November) then it’s worth hanging on to.

Christmas, Boxing Day & January Sales

We’ve all seen the queues at 5am on Boxing Day morning outside a Next for their big Christmas sales.

There are some amazing reductions and deals to be had but they usually go quick.

Online is a great place to go but we recommend snapping it up if you see something you like as they tend to sell out fast.

Spring Mid-season & Easter Sales

Around mid March Next have a mid-season sale and also something for Easter too.

We’ve found that they have a good 50% sale on selected items, and then add additional discounts of 20% on sale items so you can get up to 70% off. This is one of THE best times for students to bag a bargain.

5. Store Overview & Buyers Guide

When Brits think of sales, they think of January Sales – not the Americanised Black Friday. And when they think of January Sales, there’s no doubt that they’ll all tell you the craziest of them all is the Next sale; where eager shoppers queue overnight to get their hands on a range of discounted clothing, footwear and homewares that are packed in industrial-strength bin bags and processed through the tills by temporary occasion staff shipped in to deal with the crowds. There’s more to Next than this, of course: but it’s a big part of the brand’s appeal!

Whether or not you’re brave enough to take on the Boxing Day sales at your local Next store (or to sit frantically clicking to refresh the page on their online store), there’s no denying that it’s a high-quality, well respected retailer and a British high street favourite. There are over 550 stores throughout the UK and Ireland, and a further 200 spread worldwide across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Next is now the UK’s biggest clothing retailer by sales in the UK, having overtaken Marks & Spencer for the title.

Next is considered a mid-range retailer that is neither designer nor budget, but that offers high-quality wares on the high street. Through its brick-and-mortar stores and online shop, it currently stocks clothing (menswear, womenswear and childrenswear), footwear, lingerie, home and furniture products and sportswear, as well as small gift and beauty ranges. Most stock is Next’s own brand of products, but some stores have brand collaborations with designers such as Lipsy, Phase Eight and Oasis.

What’s more, Next strives to be as corporately responsible as they are able, meaning that you can shop with them guilt-free. Their most recent corporate social responsibility report includes a focus on solving the gender pay gap amongst their own staff and those of their suppliers, being entirely transparent throughout their supply chain, and vigorously testing, reporting and monitoring the state of their supply chain and sales techniques and channels to ensure that they are as fair and ethical as possible.

Next may not be the cheapest retailer on the high street, but its sales and promotional events alongside its reputation for quality makes it a Student Discount Squirrel favourite. Their service is also tip top, so you can be assured of easy returns, customer service queries and exchanges if and when required. You may even be able to make some extra cash out of Next if you have a friend or relative working for them by volunteering to work a shift over the January sales – it’ll be a mad and busy experience, but a great way to bag some bargains and some extra money in your piggy bank!

Top Student Buy: Chalkboard Wall Stickers – from £18.00

So you can’t paint or decorate your student room or house, but you can jazz it up to make it nice and homely whilst you’re there. Next’s range of wall stickers are easy to apply and to peel off, and the chalkboard range give you the facility to chalk directly onto your walls. You can have your revision notes up for easy reference, leave messages for your friends and allocate out the household chores amongst your housemates without ruining your walls or having to leave crumpled post-its around to be ignored!

Top Student Buy: Hello Beautiful Bath Mat – £14.00

Bathrooms in student accommodation are usually shared and as a result have a tendency to get messy and unkept very quickly! You won’t want to go to the hassle of re-decorating or having a new bathroom fitted (after all, you’re only using it for a year, during term time), but adding in some nice finishing touches to the room will help encourage your housemates to keep things looking neat and tidy. This bath mat is uplifting and bright, practical and functional. Pop some matching flowers in the bathroom to go with it, and your whole room will be transformed in two simple steps.

Top Student Buy: Lisa Angel Sterling Silver Plated Bracelet, Personalised with Name – £18.00

Struggling for a gift and want something that still looks thoughtful? This personalised bracelet makes for a great present for any female and is elegant and pretty, without being over-the-top. It’s sterling silver plated with a single freshwater pearl and a hanging charm that can be engraved either with a name or word, up to seven characters. It’s a great gift for under twenty quid and fits all styles, sizes and shapes: everyone will love it!

History of the Company

Next as we know it today started life as a ready-to-wear suit retailer known as Joseph Hepworth & Son back in 1864. The company was extremely popular from the outset, and by 1884 had over 100 outlets throughout the UK.

In 1981, the company bought womenswear retailer Kendall & Sons, taking over their 600 British stores. Originally it was conceived that the Kendall stores would remain as retailers marketed at women to complement the Hepworth men’s stores, but instead all were amalgamated to make Next stores and begin to offer some of the range that’s recognisable today. These mini department stores proved popular, and as the retail market became more crowded, Next went on to buy and absorb other companies such as the Grattan Catalogue and Combined English Stores.

Today, Next is a well-established household name on the British high street with smaller stores in town and city centres and larger retail spaces operating on out-of-town business and leisure parks. Many now include full furniture and garden ranges, as well as coffee shops and exclusive clothing collections.
