Oliver Bonas began as a small business as enterprising Oliver Tress started imported goods back from Hong Kong, where his parents lived, back to the UK, for his family and friends. Recognising a gap in the market for quirky and unusual gifts and homeware, he graduated from university and started importing properly.

Saving all the cash he made, he saved up for his first retail space in Fulham, which he hand-painted along with his uni roommates and invested £60 in a second-hand till. The store brought in a couple of hundred pounds every day but soon grew to attract lots of locals and Oliver could expand.

The name itself comes from his first name and, interestingly, his ex-girlfriend’s surname. The sister of Cressida Bonas, Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend, he borrowed the name for the business and thankfully hasn’t been asked to change it since! Now, Oliver Bonas has 43 brick-and-mortar shops, 450 staff, a large online following and a predicted turnover of £38m. Not bad for a business brainstormed at university and then started from scratch, eh? Maybe you could be next…

Two card slots allow for plenty of room and make a great addition to any purse or wallet.

Perfect to cover up the sometimes-unpleasant scents that can linger in student digs when you least want them to, this reed diffuser will fast spread a new and festive fragrance around your room and dissipate nasty odours.

The essential oils used are hand-blended and will soak gradually up the rattan reeds to fragrance your room. When you can’t smell it anymore, just flip them; and the process will begin again! It also makes for a great gift if you’re stuck for ideas.

With a fantastic range of fashion, items for the home and gifts, Oliver Bonas has really become a success in the UK’s high-street.

We’ve taken a look around oliverbonas.com to see what is new and affordable for students.

A lot of new accessories have just been released by Oliver Bonas and we simply adore this make-up bag. It’s a touch of luxury for just £15, is superbly made and we just love the gold embroidery detail.

Is your make-up scattered about your room or even worse annoying your housemates as it’s hogging the bathroom shelf. Then treat yourself to this delightful velvet cosmetic bag. Even better if your best mate can never find her mascara!

It also makes a lovely gift for a birthday or Christmas present for you Mum, Aunt or sister.

We absolutely adore this new line of Barhrhu fashion jewellery and the necklace is the stand out item. It is made up of beads in grey and green tones and cleverly weaves in some clear ones to make a unique and stunning design.

Why not team it up with the drop earrings to create a sophisticated and funky look in the evening. Yet it is still versatile enough to wear on its own during the day.

This beautiful necklace really did get us exciting in Squirrel towers!

This is no ordinary tote bag. It is the Oliver Bonas tote bag. It has a capacious interior and a funky orange lining which contrasts with the stylish grey exterior material.

What is an added bonus in a detachable pouch where you can keep your smaller items organised? That is a godsend if you are always losing your keys or phone at the bottom of your bag.

This delightful tote bag is big enough to comfortably carry your laptop and tablet too. A lovely inclusion to the Oliver Bonas range.

As the winter weather gets every chillier, Oliver Bonas has sought to answer the question ‘what shall I wear to snuggle down on the sofa?’.The answer, the speak rib tie-front cardigan!

It comes in a perfect grey and has a lovely knit pattern into it. We love the large tie, which is also knitted and sewn in so you can wrap it around keeping you toasty warm.

You can team with a pair of jeans if you need to pop to the shops and the two deep pockets at the front mean you can easily keep your purse, keys and phone comfortably in there!

It comes in sizes 6 to 16 and is available now.

If you want some earrings that are small but bursting with personality then opt for these stunners which are new to the Oliver Bonas jewellery range.

They have a gorgeous, celestial style about them, are gold plated and are set with an unusual Naos stone.

With the party season upon us, you’ll really shine on with these lovely earrings with that quality Oliver Bonas finish.

If you need a place to keep your jewellery but are averse to a box, then funky Conversation Jewellery Stand is for you.

It looks like you have an abstract sculpture right on your table. The metal part is an on-trend metallic rose gold frame and the base is a satisfyingly heavy marbleesque base made of stone dust.

Decorate your stand with your finest bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings and you’ll be the take of the town. Well, your house at the very least.

A small and quirky household brand that also stocks clothing and gifts, it may surprise you to hear that the founder’s name isn’t Oliver Bonas… but rather Oliver Tress.

Originally a single boutique that has since grown to several physical shops and a large online presence, Oliver Bonas is fast becoming a firm favourite amongst style-conscious Brits who want to stand out from the crowd and not be caught wearing, sporting or having the same aesthetics as everyone else. Those residing in London may already be familiar with the brand, but for those outside of the capital, a little less so.

Now with a range that features women clothing and accessories, homeware, furniture and gifts, there’s truly something for everyone – and this is absolutely isn’t a brand just for females. The Oliver Bonas fashion range is ready-to-wear and in a variety of neutral and pastel shades and colours for an understated but classic look.

The jewellery is contemporary and modern, setting off their outfit pieces stylishly and giving a touch of glitz. The accessory range is extremely Instagram-friendly, with everything from bags and purses to scarves, hats and make-up bags included.

If you’re not into dressing in a feminine style, the homeware and furniture may still appeal. Key classic pieces, many of them handmade make for perfect student room furniture – as you only need one item to really stand out and finish off a room in a way that’s modern, cosy and appealing. The gift range is full of quirky and beautifully designed items as well as gift cards and vouchers. You can safely purchase something from Oliver Bonas as a gift for any occasion and rest assured that no one else will have bought the same.

The exclusivity of Oliver Bonas makes it a great place to buy from if you like to stand out from the crowd. It’s the kind of store you sometimes find in upmarket seaside towns – full of interesting and quirky nick-nacks that you just don’t find anywhere else. The brand is definitely high-end but not luxury; so not completely unobtainable to students.

There’s also often clearance and sale items available online, so be sure to check back if at first you don’t find a price you’re comfortable with. Thankfully, as a brand that values it customers and staff (they chose to pay their workforce the living wage as soon as they could), they understand that not everyone has lots of spare cash to splash, and so do offer a student discount. This is valid both in-store and online and either way, buying from here will soon land you with beautiful purchases that are of great craftsmanship, fantastic quality and Instagram-worthy aesthetics!
