British footwear retailer Schuh UK is a firm student favourite for its fantastic range of branded footwear spanning boots, heels, trainers and formalwear. Their stores are full of colourful inspiration and new shapes and trends, and once inside, it can be difficult to leave without a new pair in your hand or on your feet! Many shoe shop brands have come and gone from the British high street in the last decade, but Schuh has really stuck around.

Much of this success is due to the vast range of brands that it stocks, some of which we will cover here. Schuh stocks men’s, women’s and kid’s shoes, spanning almost one hundred household brand names.

In some cases, the physical shops are split in ‘Schuh’ and ‘Schuh Kids’ for larger locations. If you can get into a store, it is worth it as the brand are highly reputed for the high quality of training for their staff – these guys really know their shoes… and your feet! You can also find a small range of bags, laces, hats and socks in-store.

For boots, you can browse ranges by the UK-cult like brand Dr Martens, workwear label Timberland and the ultimate girly comfort in UGG. Sandals are taken care of by Birkenstock and quirky heels by Irregular Choice. And that’s not all – you’ll also find Fred Perry, Clarks Originals, Kickers, Rocket Dog, Red or Dead, TOMS, T-u-k, Skechers, Havianas, Hush Puppy and Hunters all available in-store and online.

The range online is vast, so if you do have a local Schuh store near you, you may not find everything you’re looking for. However, you can order online direct to your local shop and try on your purchase while there to take advantage of free postage (it doesn’t cost the company anything extra, as they’ll just bundle them in with the shop’s usual delivery).

It’s often assumed that Schuh is a German brand because of its name, but it was actually started by a British man in Scotland before growing throughout the UK. The name was inspired by a shoe industry magazine called ‘Schuhe’ but is pronounced just like the English word ‘shoe’. Branching out to use their footwear expertise to help charity, Schuh started the ‘Schuh Welly Exchange’ in 2009 for the summer’s festival season; trading festival-goers old shoes for pairs for wellington boots.

Festivals visited so far include Rockness, Bestival, Global Gathering, Creamfields, Oxegen, Camp Bestival and Summer Sundae. You won’t find a better selection of the latest trends in footwear or a better bunch of accessories anywhere on the high street; so, shop smart and shop Schuh.
