Sports Direct Free Delivery Tips

A great way to save money is by saving on delivery. So it is possible to get standard delivery at Sports Direct, although it costs £4.99. If you want next day delivery it is £7.99. Sometimes there are voucher codes to get these for free and we will announce them when they go live.

History of Sports Direct

Sports Direct was founded in 1982 by Mike Ashley, who remains at the helm of the company today. A second shop, called Preston Sports, opened in 1984 in London and by 1992 12 shops were open. In 1995, the shops changed their name to Sports Soccer to focus more on football merchandise and equipment.

As the chain grew, a 100,000 square foot warehouse and head office was opened, and Sports Soccer began to buy up other chains to get deal; first, tennis and golf brand Donnay. From there, it continued to buy up smaller brands and opening new stores, and by 2003, had 150 of them. Not long after, they re-branded to Sports Direct to show their expanded sporting options and launched their online store. The company went public in 2006 and continued to grow and profit from there. The owner himself has since been in the news for a variety of reasons, including concerns over their policy of hiring staff on zero-hour contracts. However, the company now say that they’re looking into the situation and are committed to improving HR policies.

Today, there are over 470 stores owned by Sports Direct in the UK, including some under other brand names; Lillywhites, Field & Trek and USC. There are also some franchised stores internationally, but for now, these seem few and far between.

Top Buys at Sports Direct

There’s so much good stuff to choose from… but a few staples we love here are:

SLAZENGER EXTRA LARGE WATER BOTTLE

Ideal for taking with you to the gym, to a match or game, or just to keep you hydrated on-the-go, these giant water bottles hold up to one litre of fluid and are reusable so there’s no need to indulge in wasteful plastic purchases time and time again. A sports cap for easy drinking can be screwed off for quick refills, and a measure along the side helps you keep an eye on how much hydration you’re taking in during the day. Much cheaper than adidas Nike alternatives.

LONSDALE BARREL BAG

A fantastic, large and bright multi-purpose bag, this wipe-clean hold-all can fit in your gym or sports kit, or just be used as overnight luggage when you need it for a night away. The main section zips up and there’s a choice of two carry handles as well as an adjustable shoulder strap for comfort. It’s available in a range of colours and at 52cm wide, holds everything you need it to. The fabrics and manufacture alone probably cost more than seven quid, so we think this is a real bargain and get deal!

USA PRO RESISTANCE TRAINING TUBE

You may not have heard of a resistance tube before but look it up – there’s a whole host of exercises that you can do at home or in the gym with a band to build your endurance and strength quickly and effectively. Using a resistance band helps build your core strength, which can be difficult to gain. Containing high-grade natural latex with neoprene cushioned handles means that you won’t be able to snap this or to injure your hands giving it a go. At just £5.99, it’s time to try resistance training and get deal!
