Ellesse Giotta Grey Women’s Playsuit – £22.00
Often considered a summer staple, a playsuit is actually a piece that can be layered up in a variety of ways for year-round wear.
Wear on its own for an effortless hot weather ensemble, or team with a tee (plain or a band/vintage brand one), leggings or tights and lots of accessories for a warmer wear and glam up with jewellery and shoes!
This short and sporty playsuit has basic Ellesse branding on the chest and is made of light cotton and polyester. It can be machine washed for easy cleaning and will see you through all seasons and occasions effortlessly!
Urban Outfitters Thank You Have a Nice Day Unisex Sweatshirt – £30.00
This sweatshirt is listed in the menswear section but realistically is unisex and can be worn by anyone!
A light blue sweatshirt in a light cotton blend, this looks like a plain item from the front but the back has the lovely bold ‘Thank You Have a Nice Day’ message.
It’s a beautiful note of positivity that draws in the eyes as you’re walking away or facing the other way, giving people the opportunity to look twice always and, hopefully, leaving them with a smile on their face.
Sunnylife Donut Ping Pong Set – £22.50
OK, so this may not be a ‘homeware’ item as such, but this portable ping pong game will make a great addition to your student flat!
This can be stretched out and played on any table top surface, held in place by two adjustable net brackets.
The set includes two wooden ping pong bats (decorated like donuts because… why not?) and two ping pong balls. Play outdoors or indoors and make this into the must-play feature of your place. Invent drinking games, competitions and work out who needs to do the chores with winner-takes-all tournaments.
This small investment will soon become the talk of halls!

More About the Store
Edgy clothing and homeware retailer Urban Outfitters is an American import to the British shores, with 11 physical bricks-and-mortar shops in the UK and a large online store stocking their full range at UrbanOutfitters.com.
Urban Outfitters (or UO, as it’s often commonly known amongst Americans) is well known for being at the forefront of urban fashion and streetwear, and is marketed as a “multinational lifestyle retail” brand.
The Urban Outfitters range is a mixture of men’s and women’s fashion apparel, footwear, beauty products, accessories, activewear and housewares, as well as some vinyl music records and vintage cassettes. Most of the merchandise is own-brand, designed and produced in-house, but in recent years the brand has started stocking other labels alongside their own collections, including the likes of Levi’s, Adidas, Polaroid and Champion; mainly resurrecting vintage-style products of theirs and selling them as new. It’s this approach that has earnt the brand a firm favourite footing amongst hipsters and retro-clothing fans.
Unless you go to uni in London or live there, it’s unlikely that there’s an Urban Outfitters store near you. However, their website remains a mecca for vintage, hipster, kitsch and music fans, so you can shop online for any of their stock.
The brand isn’t the most obvious of Student Discount Squirrel favourites as it’s by no means a budget retailer. That said, Urban Outfitters offer a standard 10% student discount in-store and online off all full-price products, which helps ease the financial burden of pricier pieces a little. There’s also a well-stocked clearance section on the site that sells off previously unsold items at hefty discounts; so bookmark this page and check in from time to time to keep your eyes on bargains!
If you are into vintage dressing and looking good in a range of well-curated outfits, your best bet to manage this on a student budget is to run a capsule wardrobe. This involves buying few, but beautiful, investment pieces and mix-and-matching them rather than buying lots of individual cheap pieces and using them only a few times. Urban Outfitters makes for a great stockist for such wardrobe management, and will keep you looking chic on the cheap.
History of the Brand
The perfect student enterprise story, Urban Outfitters was founded in 1970 as a project for an entrepreneurship class by classmates Richard Hayne, Judy Wicks and Scott Belair, aged just 23.
Originally called Free People, it wasn’t until six years later that the store was incorporated and rebranded as Urban Outfitters.
The first shop was located in a small pop-up space directly opposite the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, and stocked the same vintage-inspired goods you’d expect to see from the brand today, but mainly second-hand.
The popularity of this first branch allowed the brand to expand, and to open its own wholesale and design arm. Today, Urban Outfitters is the founding brand of the URBN Group, which now includes Anthropologie (based primarily in the US, and aimed at the same sector as Urban Outfitters but a slightly older demographic), Free People (focusing on natural and organic fashion), Terrain (an urban garden centre chain), BHLDN (a bridal brand), and The Vetri Family portfolio (restaurants of primarily Italian eateries). It’s now a multi-million-dollar worldwide group of brands and continues to enjoy global success.
